Fawson's Fly South

We had an awesome vacation despite a few road bumps such as missing our flight, Ava getting gum in her hair, David losing his license, the airlines losing our luggage and me not getting fed til late in the afternoon. Our trip to Virgina started out on rocky when we missed our flight to Virginia and were re-routed to Baltimore. Ironically, Baltimore became my favorite part of the whole trip. David took me and Ava to the National Aquarium and to the Harbor. I also got to see Edgar Allen Poe's home. She loved the fish and kept telling me, "Mom, the fishes like me."
We then drove to Buena Vista, home of David's college and got to hang out with his friends from school. They are such a fun bunch and Ava liked playing with Bailey, Lena, Simon, and Gabe. We went to a Park that overlooked the whole town and it was sweet to see Ava on her swing with the most beautiful view. I was surprised though at how bad the nats were. They stuck to my lips because of my lip gloss and it looked like I had a coat of bugs on my mouth. It was gross!
While in Virgina, we went to the Petting Zoo and we got to ride an elephant and see a whole bunch of animals. We bought some food and Ava loved feeding the Lamas, goats, pigs, and little horses. Word to the wise- don't feed the ostriches- they bite hard! I speak from experience.
After the Zoo, we went to what David said is one of the 7 natural wonders of the world- the natural bridge. It was pretty. We had a little hike down to it- just mainly stairs but it still killed my legs. I am really out of shape- plus all the running in the airport in my heels didn't help. It was fun to see Carly and Josh Dean and their little family. Ava loved their new baby Gabe and it made me more excited to have our little one come. While in Virgina, we also went to Lexington and got to see the Robert E. Lee church and the Washington and Lee University. David said that Lexington is his favorite place.
Our last day, we went to Washington DC and due to our leaving that same day, we weren't able to spend as much time there as we would of liked to. The only thing I really wanted to on the trip was eat out and go to the Holocaust Museum. We did get to see some of Washington because we parked so far away and had to walk like 100 miles to get the museum. It was an amazing experience. We each got a passport with a name and story of someone who experienced the holocaust and at the end you find out whether they lived or died. It was really strange because Ava pulled the passport of a little girl around the age of 4 or 5. It made the whole experience even more touching for me as I watched her and thought about all the children, who like Ava, had no idea of what was happening. At the end, David survived, Ava survived and I died at Auschwitz.
It was time to go home then. When we got to the airport, David realized that he had lost his license somewhere and had to go through a massive background check. He was mortified about how much they knew about him in such a small amount of time. When we finally got to Vegas at 1 am, we discovered that the airline had lost our luggage. Thankfully I had my make-up otherwise I would of had to call in work sick. We got home at 4 am, Monday morning and went to work at 8:30 the same day. All is all- I absolutely loved our vacation!
