Amid the many treats and candies that come with the holiday's, David and I have been trying to eat better, not only because the Wii fit told Davy that he was overweight, or that we are addicted to The Biggest Loser and worship Bob, not to mention the little baby coming soon needs vitamins, and last but not least because Ava's recent food staples have been chocolate milk and Cheetos. I have also been craving avocados, granola, spaghetti squash and raspberries (thank goodness the brownie craving was only one night). Raspberries have a lot of nutritional value in them such as:
They contain potential anti-cancer agent ellagic acid.
Are rich in vitamin C.
Are a source of soluble fibers and may lower high blood cholesterol levels and slow release of carbohydrates into the blood stream of diabetics.
Half to one pound of raspberry fruit per day can provide twenty to thirty grams of fiber which is adequate for an adult daily nutrition requirement.
As we were sitting down to breakfast, I put some raspberries on every one's plate. I was feeling pretty good about myself as a mom, feeding my little girl some good food and not giving in to the whining and crying for chocolate milk or suckers. I gave Ava her plate and she said, "oh thank you Mom." As we were enjoying our attempt at healthy eating, Ava hands me a berry and says, "mom, it has hair on it." The little hairs that all raspberries have on them did not look to appealing to her. I explained to her what they were and then she cautiously tried one. It was funny to me though the little things that she sees and does, so although Ava may seen healthy foods as being hairy- I am determined to stick to eating better!
I miss that little munchkin, it's hard to believe that she is forming complete sentences now. We love you guys and miss you.
