Passing it on...

There are a lot of fun things that David's and my parents did with us when we were kids that I want to pass on to our kids. But one of my favorite memories is when my mom would let us either lick the bowl after she made a cake, or give us a spoon full of cookie dough when she was baking. I can remember my mom making chocolate chip cookies and all the neighborhood kids having a spoon full of cookie dough.

The other night, as I was making brownies (one of my bad pregnancy cravings) Ava was helping me. When we were all done, she instinctively grabbed the bowl and began dipping her little fingers in it. I thought about all the times that I had done the same thing. It made me happy and hopeful that she might have those same memories I have and feel the love that can come through one little spoon of cookie dough or a big bowl of batter.

  1. This is Todd, Those were some of my greatest memories as well! So we are moving to SLC in less than 2 weeks and we need to do something. When is the best time to come and visit??? Let us know. We don't have your phone # and Dave is always in SLC when I call him. See you later!

  2. When I was a teenager, I was licking the bowl when a friend came over and was shocked to see me doing such a thing. I thought everyone did that! Apparently, not so. Well, it's been passed on in my family too -- my kids LOVE baking with me, mostly because they get to lick the bowl or eat some batter.

  3. Good for you! Any child who doesn't get to is deprived! Ok, maybe that was too strong but...
