The Great Tate

So this is the story of the great Tate. I have been trying to get to the computer for the last week or so and write it all down, but any new mom knows that trying to find the time is almost next to impossible. Most of you already know what has happened but I thought I would write it down for those who don't. The story at starts on the eve of the Feb 25 as we were watching American Idol. The next thing I know... my water breaks. I run into the bathroom convinced that someone sung so bad, I just peed until David points out that nobody pees that much. It's true. I kept telling David that it is to early. I still have five weeks until he was due. David immediately starts calling everyone and telling them that my water broke. We pack a overnight bag and head to the hospital. Twelve hours later and no meds (that's right) Tate was born weighing in at 7 lbs 3 ounces and 19 inches long. I get to hold him for a little while and then they take him to the nursery.

As I go to see I am told that Tate is having some respiratory distress due to him being so early. I was told that they were going to move him to St. George because they Cedar was not able to provide him with the care that he needed. That evening, the life flight team came and took Tate and myself to St. George. He had a feeding tube, breathing tube and IV all by midnight the day he was born. We spent the next five days in the NICU. Every morning that I would come in, there would be some new tube or IV on Tate or he was under lights where we couldn't hold him.

Here he is with his tube and monitors on. You can see the IV in his forehead. He was still so beautiful to me.

He also got really bad jaundice where he couldn't be held for more that a hour a day. I think one of the hardest things for us was having this new baby and not being able to hold him or touch him. We were really blessed to have family and friends there to help us and support us.

This is one of the first times that I got to hold him. I was so happy. There is nothing like being able to hold your baby.

After many prayers on our behalf, We finally, we got to take him home on Tuesday evening. Here he is in his new car seat still attached to all his wires.

So while this story of Tate is the cliff note version, he is by all means Great. David and I feel so blessed to have him home healthy. We are also so appreciate to all of our friends and family who prayed for Tate and supported us through this journey.
